BBC News writes: Would-be astronauts competing for China's next space programme must comply with 100 rules - excluding those with bad breath or a runny nose.
The list, intended to recruit "super human beings", also prohibits those with body odours, tooth cavities or scars which may "burst open" in space.
China will launch a space module next year and hopes for a docking by 2011.
I think it's admirable that the list would exclude those with bad breath and body odor, for the comfort of the astronauts. I mean, can you imagine? Being in such close confinement with someone with B.O.? I work in an office cubicle, where there is a maze of other cubicles surrounding me. Even in the expanse of my floor, any disturbance in the force, including body odor, bad food smells, and noisy eaters, affects my productivity.
In space, it can be a matter of life and death - imagine the scenario: Jei Mei's breath is so bad, as you are operating the controls, you have to cover your nose and in that instant, lose control and go spinning away into space to your ultimate demise, or until you land on a planet that is run by apes.
