The Final Frontier: The Science of Star Trek

As the new movie warps into theaters this week, we ask physicist Lawrence Krauss, author of The Physics of Star Trek, how the sci-fi franchise keeps it real, and also how it bends--or breaks--a few laws of nature

Who went to see Star Trek this past weekend? Let me raise my hand in affirmation. I loved it!

ScientificAmerican.com spoke to Lawrence Krauss, author of The Physics of Star Trek, and the interview appears here! Check it out, it's interesting, and discusses the plausibility (or not) of the science behind Star Trek!

(P.S.S. ScientificAmerican.com should interview a biologist next to discuss the weird creatures of Star Trek ... like Tribbles and Ceti eels OR go check out these books from your local library if you can find them: Life Signs: The Biology of Star Trek, by Robert Jenkins, M.D. and Susan Jenkins, M.D., HarperCollins, 1998; and To Seek Out New Life: The Biology of Star Trek, by Athena Andreadis, Ph.D., Three Rivers Press, 1999)
